Done-in-a-Day Projects
Making an Immediate Impact on the Community
Done-in-a-Day, a committee within the Community Council of the JLA, provides JLA members with a fun, easy way to volunteer in the community. The commitment for Done-in-a-Day projects ranges from minimal (shopping for a book drive) to half-day. This allows members to provide meaningful services without a long-term commitment. These opportunities are a wonderful way to learn more about the variety of organizations available in the Capital Region while meeting fellow JLA members and members of the community.
Done in a Day Events for September and October, 2008
The Community Council kicked off the 2007-2008 Junior League year with three Done in a Day (DIAD) experiences to benefit the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, as well as the Komen Race for the Cure.
On September 22nd, eighteen Jr. League members, their families and friends worked picking squash, broccoli, zucchini, and completing various other farming tasks for the food bank at the Patroon Land Foundation.
Nine Jr. League members volunteered for the Komen Race for the Cure held on Monday, October 1st. Volunteers were responsible for assembling boxes for each of the teams attending the event on Saturday, October 6th. The Jr. League will be assisting on race day as well involving educating the public on breast cancer using materials from the Komen Foundations, I am the Cure.
