Kids in the Kitchen 2007
The Junior League of Albany along with Junior Leagues around our international network, participated in the second annual Junior Leagues' Kids in the Kitchen initiative to address the issues surrounding childhood obesity and poor nutrition.
In response to alarming statistics that an increasingly large percentage of children and adolescents in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the United States are overweight or at risk of becoming overweight, the Association of Junior League's International launched the initiative in 2006. In its first year, over 225 Leagues participated and media coverage reached over 80 million people with messages about the issues surrounding childhood obesity and the Junior League's Kids in the Kitchen initiative.
Our 2006 event was held at the Capital City Rescue Mission's Family Center. To learn more about that successful event, please read the recap available on this site.
This year, the Junior League of Albany held our program in partnership with Girls, Inc. on Saturday, March 31, 2007. We were joined by Siena College athletes; Dr. Michael Morin from Capital Care Medical Group; and chef Gail Sokol, an award-winning professional chef and star of "Feed Your Brain with Chef Gail Sokol". This event raised awareness of the urgent problem of childhood obesity while providing the participants with a day of fun!
We enlisted sponsors and supporters of our Kids in the Kitchen initiative. We are grateful to La Brea Bakery, for generously helping to support this event along with our other sponsors.
Thank you to our sponsors and partners!
